TRAVEL BLOG 1: Social Media, Filters and Fear of judgment

Social Media, Filters and Fear of judgment

Karjat, Maharshtra. India
Today I was scrolling the instagram, unexpectedly a thought strikes to my mind, “Everything is so perfect, everyone is so beautiful, everyone is so cool and everyone is enjoying the life and living at the best”. Everybody is portraying themselves so well and connecting to people through this platform. Folks are posting and roasting about motivation, philosophy, fitness and motivation but nobody is talking about their vulnerabilities, bad mood and bad faces. No one is showing the other side of the coin. Why the idea of socializing is restricted to the good one of you. Why we are connecting hundreds and thousands of people without being the real us. Everyone is hiding themselves and their weakness behind numbers of filter.

I think adding filters in social media platform was the part of mission of social media and the vision was make us insecure, meanwhile insecurities become perfection. Initially you find them so fascinating but this is so disturbing when we come to kwon the fact that filters are mostly used to eliminate unwanted or undesired components in those things which are not good for processing of equipment or for us or for our health. Knowingly or unknowingly we are damaging our self-esteem. Online popularity is considered more rather the real life popularity. Filters are the part of our life since inception whether it’s in our words or in our thoughts. Now the situation is so scary that, we are surrounded by filters. We are having filters in everything we are using in our daily life say it’s our water purifier, air purifier, even in cigarettes. I don’t understand why cigarettes are given filter, I guess to fuck us with protection, but everybody knows the truth.

So the social media is saying that our reality is unwanted and undesired. Think of it. Think of the conspiracy behind the idea of fake world, where we are living only with the lie of others and ours. Eventually we all are praising and admiring the lies of each other in the name of truth. Everyone on this platform knows only the one side of the coin. We are only entertaining the people who just care about our looks; they don’t even matter in our life, neither we matters to their lives.

Now the question comes to mind is, if we are already aware about our reality then why we using filters on social media? Why we have filters in our words? Why can’t we express ourselves without fear of judgement? Why we hesitate in accepting our own reality? Why no one can be the natural and real? Who made us to fear from our own reality? Who made us think about how people will react? Who made us hide? There are lots unanswered and disturbing questions, but they might say, they don’t give a daam!!! About what people are thinking, we do what we want and be what we are. But the reality is, it bothers us, we all have fear of judgement, I would rather say “fear of own self”.

The attitude of not accepting others and own selves is the only reason, we are using filters not only on social media platform and but also in person too. Running away from the ground reality and patching it with lies is all what we doing. This whole narrative of using filters is so internalised in us that we are not recognising what we are and what we was.  Even if we want to escape from whole this conspiracy we will not be able to.
